In addition, read the text on the Literature Club again and this time list the activities members can do at school literature clubs. Write the list in your notebook.

As a member of your school literature club, you would like expand the usual activities by adding some new ones. Read the suggested list below and complete it using your own ideas. Then post it online for other members to study it as it will be put on the agenda of the next club meeting. Ask them to jot down why they agree or disagree with each idea and present their arguments next time.

Justifying
I'm for organising book sales. Firstly, I know many people would simply donate some books they have shelved and forgotten about or for other reasons, but others might need them, so they would buy them. Next, this would help raise the club funds. This way, we could help our schoolmates in need and we could realize the idea of LC trips, which I love. Finally, through sales we would promote our club and maybe make more peers think about it and join us.

Q1: Maja, what are you reading at the moment?
Maja: I'm currently reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”, an epistolary letter,  which fills me with  nostalgia, and makes me long for a time when people communicated with each other through letters on a daily basis. What I find fascinating is the way they did it: with courtesy, in a refined way, which is hard to sense in the communication of today. And the pace of life was slow, people did not rush, but they were thoughtful and cared about each other.

Q2: Which book do you think made the greatest impact on you?
Maja: Oh, it’s difficult to say.  By favouring one, I would do wrong to the others. Maybe “One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez. It simply floored me.

Q3: Which book would you recommend to younger readers?
Maja: I don’t think there is such a big difference between young and old readers, at least, once you have finished primary school. I think the young are more open to different, stories, genres, styles, whatever book they go for, it’s a win. They should just gor for it.

Q4: What is your favourite genre?
Maja: I’d better say which ones I do not like: science-fiction and fantasy. On the other hand, I’m a big fan of magical realism and Kurt Vonnegut, for example.

Q5: How do you get ideas what to read?
Maja: I usually read or hear something about a book or an author that catches my interest and I want to check that out by myself.  A good friend’s advice is also always welcome and, although it sounds trivial, sometimes a nice cover and a catchy blurb are enough of a reason for me to buy a book.
