Psychologists have come to
a
conclusion that all the words one uses to describe someone can be clustered into five sets. In
a
broad sense, words of
a
cluster are similar in meaning, one can see
a
connection between them and they convey completely different meaning than words from other clusters. Together with their opposites, words can be divided into five groups, known as
the
Big Five. Their initial letters form
the
acronym OCEAN, and
the
integral traits are as followed: 1 Openness to experience:an
inclination toward enjoying novelty,
a
variety of experiences as well as love for art and intellectual stimulation. 2 Conscientiousness:a
tendency to be organized, self-disciplined, you strive for achievements and prefer planning to spontaneous behaviour. 3 Extraversion:a
tendency to enjoy
the
company of others, you are filled with positive emotions and energy. 4 Agreeableness:an
inclination toward being friendly, cooperative and compassionate. 5 Neuroticism:a
tendency to experience unpleasant emotion easily.
Nowadays many psychologists believe we are a variation of the Big Five groups since we all have our own scores in these categories. For example,
a
careless person scores low on conscientiousness scale or someone confident scores low on neuroticism scale.
But
the
whole story doesn’t end here, some studies have shown that we could include the sixth factor - Honesty - that indicates one’s maturity, ranging from selfishness to virtue.
