INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE MIDDLE AGES

 

  • In the 1200's, London and Paris had a population of no more than 30,000 or 40.000 people. Southern European cities like Venice and Florence had over 100,000. The world s largest cities were Constantinople and Baghdad. They had about a million people each. Most people lived in small homes with one or two rooms. Usually everyone slept in the same room. In the country, the family animals, such as a cow, also lived inside the home.
  • In the Middle Ages, barbers were also doctors who did surgeries and pulled out teeth.
  • Animals (pigs, bulls, horses, cows, rats) were often put on trial for crimes. They could be sentenced to death, if found guilty.
