If you are friends with someone you'll probably make some mistakes and you will feel you need to apologize. Perhaps you had a misunderstanding or maybe you just didn't show support. Apologizing can help you both to stay friends.
Use your imagination and think of a time you hurt your friend or a classmate.

• Write that you know that you made a mistake (Hint: I know I hurt your feelings when I ...)
• Write once again that you are sincere (Hint: It was wrong of me to do that.
• The words "I'm sorry" or "I apologize." (Hint: I’m truly sorry for that. You didn't deserve that. )
• Write that you hope will stay friends.
• Suggest you do something together

Avoid saying:

• 'I''m sorry if I hurt you.' (Hint: If, in this sentence, means you do not take responsibility.
• 'I'm sorry you feel that way.' (Hint: Again, you're not taking responsibility here. Instead try to find out more about why the person is upset.)
• 'I'm sorry you think I did that.' (Hint: Write this only if your friend is mistaken about something you've done.)

I am sorry. I don't want you to think that I'm saying those words lightly. I really mean them. I am so sorry. I know that what I did was wrong and I know that it hurt you deeply. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I do know that I never wanted to hurt you. I wish I could take it back, but I can't. All I can do is try to show you how much I regret what I've done and ask for your forgiveness.
I like you. You are my friend since kindergarten. We have certainly had our share of problems in the past, but we've always been able to work through them. I got your letter today; I have read it through a couple of times. I admit the first moment that I saw this was from you, I was angry and didn't want to read it. I was happy however to have read it. I too have done a lot of thinking over the past (few weeks) and have managed to organize my thoughts and realize why I also felt so hurt by your words.
I realise now, with the time that has past that not everything is so black and white. It is the shades of grey that are so often hard to see but that must be looked at and looked at well.
I am so happy that you wrote, and I do indeed very much appreciate and accept your heart felt apology.
